Club NotesMarch 22nd, 2010U21 HurlingThe competitive season in the adult club got off with a great start with our under-21 hurlers taking on Castletown Ballyagran at home on St Patrick’s Day. This proved an easy win for our side in the 12-a-side championship and given the commitment of the young squad augurs well for the rest of the competition. With games against Crecora, Bruree, Glenroe and Monagea to come before the play-offs, selectors Niall Macken, Alan Kitson and Tom Murphy will be more than pleased with this start. Alex de Souza excelled stoutly and made many fine clearance in a sturdy defence while John O’ Dwyer was accurate in his free-taking and Luke Murphy shone in attack. The squad lined out as follows: David Haugh, John Griffin, Alex de Souza, Darragh Madden, Podge Pond, David Mulhall, John O’ Dwyer, Darragh Bonfil, David Pond, Luke Murphy, Stephen Murphy and Peter Griffin. Subs: Eoin O’Brien, Kevin Murphy, F. Kavanagh, Tadgh Murphy, Cian O’Dwyer, Cian O’Brien, Tadgh McInerney. ScórOn the quiz front congratulations to our Scór team of Liam de Burca, Frank Madden and Michael O’Sullivan who were runners- up in the Munster final in Ballybunion on Sunday. Winners Cratloe had final score of 50 marks while Monaleen were on 46 and Millstreet on 42. The same team along with John Stapleton were in third place behind Lucan Sarsfields and Bornacoola from Leitrim in the Tráth na Gaeilge quiz in Croke Park on St. Patricks Day. This was a fine performance from the winners in 2007 and 2009 and again ends another very successful quiz season. Under 9 & 10 Hurling vs MungretWell done to the U9/U10 hurling players who participated in a friendly blitz in Mungret last Saturday evening. This was their first competitive outing of the year and it was clear from the excitement of all that they were thrilled to kick-start their year of inter club games. Both the Monaleen and Mungret clubs played some fine hurling on a fine pitch in great weather conditions. Both teams shared the honours winning two games each. Some great skills and discipline were displayed. Thanks to Mungret for being great hosts - we will welcome them to Monaleen in the near future. Under 6 & 7 HurlingU6/7 hurling training has now moved outdoors to the clubhouse pitch Fridays 6pm for the remainder of the season (except during school holidays). A gentle reminder to all players to bring their own wooden hurlies and to wear shin guards and helmets. We will organise inter club games over coming weeks and months so roll on the summer! |
