U12 Boys Football
Our U12 footballers played their first league game on Tuesady when
they visited Adare. We started slowly and were soon in arrears but goals
from Oisin Kelly and Mark O'Mara got us back in the game and we lead
at halftime. However we faded in the second half and despite fine performances
from Niall O'Shea, Evan O'Connor and Eoghan Whittle we finished up losing
4-5 to 4-1.
Under 12 Girls Gaelic Football
Monaleen continued their winning run with a great win over Abbey Sarsfields
on Friday. Caroline Leahy got the scoring off to a start with a goal
and a point followed by quick points from Claire Kelly and Sarah Geraghty.
Abbey Sarsfields were very threatening from midfield but good defending
from Emma Haugh, Caoimhe Lyons, Jane Clohessy and Lauren O Dell with
Emma Campbell in goals, kept them scoreless in the first half. In the
second half Sarah Shortt, Megan O Mara, and Aisling Doyle added goals
each, before Abbey Sarsfield finally broke through for a well deserved
goal after some sustained pressure. They followed this up with some
nice points before great goals by Niamh Mulhall and Megan O Hehir put
the game out of reach. Great performances too by Laura Phelan, Susan
Fullen, Clodagh Murphy & Aoife Moloney helped Monaleen to a convincing
win by 8-7 to 1-4. The full team was Emma Campbell, Lauren O Dell, Jane
Clohessy, Emma Haugh, Caoimhe Lyons, Niamh Mulhall, Claire Kelly, Sarah
Geraghty, Sarah Shortt, Sarah Quinlan, Aisling Doyle, Laura Phelan,
Megan O Mara, Clodagh Murphy, Caoimhe O Dwyer, Aoife Moloney, Caroline
Leahy, Susan Fullen and Megan O Hehir.
Under 12 Camogie
Monaleen played Murroe/Boher in very difficult conditions on Thursday
evening. The first half was very evenly contested with both sides making
great efforts to score, but great defending by Cliodhna McCarthy, Sinead
O Hanrahan and Nicole Sheahan for Monaleen and by Murroe/Boher kept
the sides scoreless at half-time. In the second half Monaleen put on
the pressure through Ciara Wiley and Jane Stundon before Laura Phelan
finally broke through with a goal, assisted by Susan Fullen in the forwards.
Claire Kelly got a point before linking up with Aisling Doyle who converted
a great goal to give Monaleen a good lead. Murroe/Boher fought hard
to get back in the game but Caoimhe Lyons was very strong breaking out
of defence on a number of occassions, and goalkeeper Niamh Holmes made
a great clearance after the ball hit the post. All players deserve great
credit for a very entertaining game in very poor weather , especially
Aoife and Emear Nelson, Laura Griffin and Christine Costelloe, who fought
hard to the end, with Monaleen eventual winners by 2-1 to no score.
Next Thursday Monaleen are away to Ahane.
