Doon v Monaleen 6th and 20th June, 2008

We had a 2 games with the boys from Doon in June 2008. All the team gave a great display of their hurling and really impressed their watching parents with how their skills have developed over the year.

On Friday 6th June, we hosted Doon at the clubhouse pitch and had two matches. The Doon boys were that little bit sharper at the start, and got a few scores. However, the second halves of both matches were a lot better from a Monaleen point of view and we were very competitive.

Two weeks later in glorious sunshine the Under 7's and Under 8's travelled out to Doon for the rematch. The under 7 team is pictured below :

Under 7's v Doon 20th June 2008.

This time Monaleen put their skills and determination to good use and quickly opened up a lead. Mark Harty was a rock in defence and kept all Doon attacks at bay. He was aided by John Moloney and Muiris Bowler, who swept away all balls sent their way. Eoin Twomey, David McMahon and Donncha O Dalaigh showed great touch and skill. Jack Considine poached a number of crucial goals on the night to help Monaleen get a win. Niall McGrath and Caolan Dignam had great games in the middle of the field, ably helped by Charles Kiljur and Ronan Lyons who both excelled. Brothers Petrus and Isaac Osioh kept the Doon defenders busy all evening with their super play.

At half time the score was 3 - 3, and the boys came off for a well earned break and some water to cool down. The referee got the second half underway, and Monaleen's long season of training paid off as, despite the heat, the Monaleen boys kept running and hurling at a furious pace that Doon simply couldn't match.

Daire Ryan made some great saves in goals as Doon were held scoreless, as Morgan Connolly and Micheal O Hanrahan were playing superbly in attack.

Monaleen got the goals their great play deserved, and were very happy to get their first ever win!

Most importantly the game was enjoyed by both teams, with every boy on both sides being a winner!

Monaleen v Ahane 13th and 20th June, 2007

Back in June 2007 we had a great match against visitors Ahane, and a week later, these boys made their very first away trip, out to play Ahane at Lisnagry School.

The hurling from both teams was top class and was a great way to end this team's very first season.

Jason Aylward, Mark Harty and James Flannery who all played very well in defense are making sure nobody gets past them!
